Cancellations and refunds

Car deals move quickly and plans change. This page sets out how to cancel or move a booking, and what happens when an inspection cannot go ahead.

Last updated 2 August 2026

Cancel or reschedule more than 48 hours ahead and there is no charge. Between 24 and 48 hours, 25% of the booking fee is retained. Inside 24 hours, 50%.

1. When a booking is confirmed

A booking request becomes a confirmed booking when we tell you, by email or phone, that a Mechanic and a time have been secured. Payment is then due in full, by credit card or bank transfer to “Troy Overend - Sole Trader” trading as “EV Inspection”. Until we confirm, nothing is locked in and nothing is payable.

2. Cancelling or rescheduling

Tell us as early as you can — call 0494 799 677 or email bookings@evinspection.com.au. The earlier we know, the more likely the Mechanic can fill the slot and the less likely any fee applies.

  • More than 48 hours before the appointment: cancel or reschedule at no charge.
  • Between 24 and 48 hours before the appointment: 25% of the booking fee is retained.
  • Less than 24 hours before the appointment: 50% of the booking fee is retained, because the Mechanic has already committed the time and travel.
  • After the Mechanic has arrived at the vehicle: the booking is treated as attended. See "If the inspection cannot be completed" below.

3. If the seller cancels or the vehicle is not available

This happens, and it is not your fault. If the seller cancels, does not show, or the vehicle cannot be accessed when the Mechanic arrives, we will reschedule at no additional charge wherever we can.

If you would rather not proceed at all — because the car has sold, or you have gone off it — tell us and we will refund you, less any travel or time the Mechanic has unavoidably incurred. We will tell you that amount before we process anything.

4. If the car sells before we get there

Let us know as soon as you find out. If it is before the Mechanic has travelled, we will cancel with no fee or refund you in full. Used electric cars move fast and we would rather keep you as a customer for the next one.

5. If the inspection cannot be completed

Occasionally an inspection starts but cannot be finished — the seller withdraws access partway, a charger is unavailable, weather makes testing unsafe, or the vehicle is not in a condition to be tested.

In that situation you will receive a report covering what was completed, with a clear statement of what could not be assessed and why. Where a material part of the inspection could not be carried out we will discuss a partial refund or a return visit with you.

6. If you are unhappy with the inspection or the report

Tell us promptly, while the vehicle is still available to be looked at again if needed. Email bookings@evinspection.com.au with the booking reference and what the problem is.

Because the Inspection is carried out by an independent Mechanic, we will put you in direct contact with them and assist in working the issue through. Where the shortcoming relates to our own booking service, we will re-supply it or refund what you paid us for that booking.

7. How refunds are made

Refunds go back to the original payment method — a card refund to the card used, a bank transfer to the account it came from. Processing time is 5–7 days. We will confirm by email when a refund has been processed.

8. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Nothing on this page limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a remedy if a service is not provided with due care and skill, or is not fit for the purpose you told us about. Where a failure is major you may cancel and seek a refund; where it is minor, we may choose to re-supply the service instead.

These rights sit alongside the terms above, not instead of them. Full terms are on the Terms of Service page.
