What an inspection can establish, what it cannot, and how to read the information published on this website.
Last updated 2 August 2026
EV Inspection is a booking agency. Inspections are carried out by independent mechanics who specialise in electric vehicles, each operating under their own licensing and insurance.
1. General
The information on this website is general in nature and published in good faith. It does not take account of your particular circumstances, the specific vehicle you are looking at, or its history. It is not a substitute for an inspection of that vehicle.
2. What an inspection is
An inspection is an assessment of a vehicle's condition at a single point in time, made by an independent Mechanic using the equipment available and the access granted on the day.
It is non-invasive. The Mechanic does not dismantle the vehicle, remove trim or panels, open the high-voltage battery enclosure, or test beyond what is safe, lawful and permitted by the vehicle's owner.
3. What an inspection is not
An inspection report is not, and should not be treated as:
- a warranty or guarantee of any kind, express or implied;
- a certificate of roadworthiness or safety;
- an assurance that the vehicle is free of defects, present or future;
- a valuation, or advice on what price you should pay;
- a guarantee that a component will not fail after the inspection date.
4. Limits on what can be found
Some faults cannot reasonably be detected in a non-invasive inspection. Intermittent faults may not present on the day. Concealed damage may not be visible without dismantling. A fault that only appears under load, at temperature, or after prolonged use may not appear during the time available.
Access affects findings. Where a seller declines a road test, a charging session or access to part of the vehicle, that limits what can be assessed — and the report will say so rather than pass over it.
5. Battery readings specifically
A battery state of health figure is a measurement taken from the vehicle's own systems at a moment in time. It reflects what the battery management system reports, and that reporting can be affected by the state of charge, recent driving, ambient temperature, and whether the system has recently been reset and has not yet relearned.
Readings are reported with those caveats where they apply. A state of health figure is a strong indicator of condition — it is not a prediction of how long a pack will last, and no one can honestly give you that.
6. The independent mechanic
We vet the Mechanics we work with, but vetting is a screening process and not a guarantee of outcome. Each Mechanic exercises their own professional judgement, holds their own licensing and registration, and carries their own insurance.
The findings and opinions in a report are the Mechanic's. We do not alter them. Concerns about the conduct of an inspection or the content of a report should be raised with us so we can put you in contact with the Mechanic and assist in resolving it.
7. Guides and articles on this site
Our guides describe general patterns across models, chemistries and manufacturers. Specifications, warranty terms, recall campaigns and manufacturer policies change, and they differ by variant, build date and how a vehicle has been used.
Where we quote a manufacturer's published terms we say when we checked them. Always confirm the current position for a specific vehicle identification number with the manufacturer or an authorised dealer before you rely on it.
8. No professional advice
Nothing on this website is financial, legal or insurance advice. Decisions about buying, financing or insuring a vehicle are yours, and you should seek your own advice where the amounts involved warrant it.
9. External links and third parties
This website may link to third-party sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices. Vehicle makes and model names appear for identification only; we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any manufacturer.
