Read the pack directly
Usable capacity and cell voltage spread taken from the battery management system, not inferred from the range display. On LFP cars this is the only method that works — the chemistry defeats estimation.
Our story
We started this because of a gap we kept running into as EV owners ourselves. A conventional pre-purchase inspection is built around an engine, a gearbox and an exhaust system. Point it at an electric car and it checks the tyres, the brakes and the panels properly — then stops at the one component worth more than all of them put together.
That isn't a criticism of the mechanics doing them. It's a tooling and training problem: reading a high-voltage pack takes equipment a general workshop has no reason to own, and a procedure built for the platform in front of you. So we built a service around the mechanics who do have both.
We work across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for private buyers, for sellers who want documented proof before listing, and for dealers who would rather know what a trade-in is really worth. We sell no cars and take no referral fees from sellers, so there is no commercial reason for a report to say anything other than what was measured.
How the service works
EV Inspection is a booking service. We connect electric vehicle buyers, sellers and dealers with professional mechanics who specialise in electric vehicles — and we handle everything around the inspection so you do not have to.
Take the booking, match it to the right specialist for that platform, contact the seller and arrange access, then deliver the report to you and talk it through.
Carries out the inspection and writes the findings. The professional judgement in the report is theirs, and we do not alter it.
Every mechanic we engage operates under their own licensing and their own insurance. Ask us and we will provide the details for the person attending your booking.
We check qualifications, EV-specific experience, equipment and insurance before a mechanic joins the panel — and we act on what customers tell us afterwards.
The full position is set out in our Terms of service and Disclaimer.
What we stand on
No referral fees, no dealer kickbacks, no repair work sold off the back of a report.
If we can't test it, we say so. Every battery claim in our reports comes off a tool, not a dashboard.
You shouldn't need an engineering degree to understand what you're about to buy.
A report that never says "don't buy this" isn't worth paying for.
What makes it an EV inspection
This is the part that separates an EV inspection from a good conventional one. Everything else — panels, tyres, brakes, suspension, structure — we do as well, because those still matter.
Usable capacity and cell voltage spread taken from the battery management system, not inferred from the range display. On LFP cars this is the only method that works — the chemistry defeats estimation.
Isolation testing, contactors, HV cabling and evidence of previous high-voltage repair work. This needs specific equipment and a specific safety procedure, and it is where general workshops stop.
Intermittent charging faults do not reliably appear in a stationary scan on any platform. We run a live session and record exactly what was tested and what wasn't.
Outstanding recalls and manufacturer campaigns confirmed against the vehicle identification number, plus where the battery warranty actually stands — term, distance limit and capacity floor.
