EV inspections Inner East

The inner east carries Melbourne’s highest concentration of premium used EVs — Polestars, high-spec Teslas and European models coming off three-year leases through the Whitehorse and Burwood Road dealer strips. They present beautifully. The question is always what sits underneath.

Local knowledge

Buying an EV in the inner east?

Lease returns and ex-demonstrators dominate here, and they are usually well presented: detailed, serviced on schedule, sold at a sharp number against new. What they do not advertise is how hard the car worked in those three years, or whether the balance of the battery warranty actually transfers to you. Both are checkable, and we check both.

Period housing means inconsistent parking. A garage in Balwyn, a shared driveway in Richmond, permanent on-street in Prahran — that changes the charging pattern far more than the postcode suggests. We read it off the car rather than assume it from the address.

Premium EVs also carry premium repair bills. An air suspension fault, a damaged pack case or a failed onboard charger on one of these is a five-figure conversation, which is exactly why the high-voltage and underbody checks matter more here, not less.

What we see here

What premium stock hides well.

Warranty position

Battery and vehicle warranty do not always transfer cleanly on a second-hand premium EV. We confirm the position in writing before you commit.

Ex-lease workload

Well serviced and heavily used are not opposites. The pack figure and charge history tell you which side of that a car sits on.

Expensive faults

Air suspension, onboard chargers and pack case damage. All five-figure items, all findable in a two-hour inspection.

New to EVs? Start with the battery health guide and the used EV checklist.

Do you inspect European and premium EVs?

Yes. Battery, high-voltage and charging tests are platform-agnostic, and we match each job to a technician equipped for that make. Polestar, BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Volvo EVs are all routine.

Are ex-demo and ex-lease cars a good buy?

Often, yes — they are usually serviced on schedule and priced well below new. The two things to establish are how hard the car worked and whether the balance of the battery warranty transfers to you. We confirm both in the report.

Do you cover Box Hill and Camberwell?

Yes. The full suburb list is above, and anywhere else in the inner east is covered with no call-out fee.

What does an inspection cost?

Essential is $349 and Complete is $479, both including GST, with no call-out fee anywhere in the area. The Complete package adds live AC and DC charge testing, thermal and drive unit assessment and a full fault-code and recall review.
