Local knowledge

Buying an EV on the Beaches?

Home charging is the norm from Manly through to Palm Beach, and most cars here do short, predictable local distances. Packs generally test well. The qualifier is the environment: salt spray, sand and humidity get into fasteners, subframe mounts and high-voltage connector housings, and on an EV that last one is a safety item rather than a cosmetic one.

Roof loads are the local signature. Board racks, bike carriers and roof boxes leave mounting-point wear, seal damage and occasionally water ingress paths — and on an EV, water finding its way into the wrong place is a far more expensive problem than it is on a combustion car. We check the seals and the isolation resistance together.

The other practical point is access. One road in and out of much of the peninsula means we plan the day around the location rather than the other way around; booking a day or two ahead usually gets you a better window.

What we see here

What the coast does to a car.

Salt and sand

Fasteners, subframes and HV connector housings. Found early it is a service item; found late it is structural.

Roof-load wear

Rack mounting points, damaged seals and the water ingress paths they open up. Checked alongside isolation resistance.

Light use, long idle

Short local trips and weeks parked between them. We check what that pattern has done to the pack.

New to EVs? Start with the battery health guide and the used EV checklist.

Does salt air affect an electric car?

It does not touch the battery chemistry, but it accelerates corrosion on fasteners, subframe mounts and high-voltage connector housings. A corroded HV connector housing is a safety item on an EV, so we check for it as standard on every coastal car.

Do roof racks cause problems on an EV?

They can. Mounting points wear, seals get damaged and water finds a path in — and water in the wrong place on a high-voltage vehicle is a much more expensive problem than on a combustion car. We check the seals and run isolation resistance testing together.

Do you cover Avalon, Newport and Palm Beach?

Yes, all the way up the peninsula. The full suburb list is above and there is no call-out fee inside the area.

How far ahead should I book?

A day or two gets you a better window on the Beaches than a same-day request, simply because of the traffic in and out. Urgent jobs are still usually possible — call and we will tell you honestly what we can do.
