Local knowledge

Buying an EV in the south east?

The wholesale and auction trade around Dandenong moves cars quickly and documents them lightly. Plenty of good vehicles come through it, and the pricing reflects the reduced hand-holding rather than reduced quality — but ex-fleet, ex-rental and repaired-damage histories are all more common here than in a retail yard, and none of them are obvious from a listing.

Buyers here are also the most price-driven in Melbourne, which cuts both ways. A cheaper car with an unmeasured pack is not a bargain; it is an unknown. On a $25,000 EV the battery figure is most of the value, and it is the one number a seller cannot fake once we have read it off the car.

The newer estates further out — Berwick, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Officer — are a different market again: garages, home charging and first-owner cars coming off finance at three years. Those are often the best-kept EVs in the south east.

What we see here

Where the risk sits in a volume market.

Thin histories

Ex-fleet, ex-rental and repaired damage are all more common in wholesale stock. We check for all three.

Unmeasured packs

A cheap EV with an unknown battery is not a bargain. The measured figure is the whole negotiation.

New-estate cars

Berwick out to Pakenham: garaged, home charged, often the best-kept EVs in the area.

New to EVs? Start with the battery health guide and the used EV checklist.

Can you inspect a car at a wholesaler or auction house?

Yes, where access is permitted. Tell us the yard and the viewing window and we will work to it — the report will be with you before you have to commit or bid.

How do you spot an ex-fleet or ex-rental EV?

Service patterns, charge session counts against age, interior wear that does not match the odometer, and the registration and compliance history together. No single item proves it; the combination usually does, and the report says how confident we are.

Do you cover Berwick, Cranbourne and Pakenham?

Yes. The full suburb list is above, and anywhere else across the south east is covered with no call-out fee.

Is a cheaper car from a wholesaler a bad idea?

Not at all — plenty of good cars move through that channel, and the pricing reflects less hand-holding rather than worse metal. It simply shifts the due diligence onto you, which is exactly what an independent inspection covers.
