Buying an EV in the inner north?
Housing here means street parking far more often than a garage, so cars sit outside through Melbourne summers and hail seasons alike. Melbourne heat is mild by Australian standards and the pack barely notices it, but permanent outdoor parking does raise the odds of storm damage that has been quietly repaired.
The stock skews cheaper and older — early Leafs, MGs, first-generation Model 3s. On a car at that end of the market the battery is most of the remaining value, so a measured state of health figure is not a nice-to-have, it is the price.
Most sales here are private rather than dealer, which usually means a more relaxed inspection and a less complete paper trail. We check service history, recall completion and warranty position rather than taking the ad at face value.

What we see here
What the value end of the market needs.
Repaired hail
Permanent outdoor parking through Melbourne storm seasons. A paint depth gauge finds what fresh paint hides.
Older packs
On a cheaper EV the battery is most of the value. The measured figure is the negotiation.
Private-sale gaps
Service history, open recalls and warranty position — all checked rather than assumed.

Should I worry about hail damage on a Melbourne car?
It is worth checking on any car that parks outside here. Repaired hail is the most commonly undisclosed history on Melbourne cars — it hides well under fresh paint but not from a paint depth gauge, which we run across the panels and roof on every inspection.
Is a cheap older EV worth buying?
It can be excellent value as a second car, provided you buy on the measured battery figure rather than the odometer or the seller’s estimate. On a car at this end of the market the pack is most of what you are paying for.
Can you inspect a car parked on the street?
Yes — most of our inner north inspections happen at the kerb. We need a legal park and enough room to work safely. If the street is too tight, we ask the seller to move it a block.
Do you cover Brunswick, Northcote and Preston?
Yes. The full suburb list is above, and anywhere else in the inner north is covered with no call-out fee.
